»World views« with the Tamil Heritage Foundation
What an inspiring day we had with a group from the Tamil Heritage Foundation in Erlangen, who visited the foundations for a family workshop!
The focus was on an 18th-century palm-leaf manuscript depicting the Tamils’ »zodiac signs« and »images of the heavens«. The manuscript comprises just 10 leaves and is such an important addition to the predominantly European-influenced depictions of the heavens, for example in the Cabinet of Artefacts and Natural Curiosities.
In the Baroque collection, the participants searched for objects that reminded them of the sky and shared their stories. In the historical library, they read the original sources. By creatively designing their own very personal sky and its story, they explored in greater depth what we had discussed from multiple perspectives.
The artworks and reflections are on display from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm, in the Museumslab in front of the Cabinet of Artefacts and Natural Curiosities. Museum visitors are also welcome to get involved!
