Hundreds of people pass through the Francke Foundations every day. So why should only a few be involved in shaping a new permanent exhibition about the Foundation’s founder? That is why we invite you to take part in an experiment.
What you encounter in the exhibition rooms of Francke in Transition, located in the former residence of the Foundation’s founder, are eight thematic teasers—proposals and invitations to think ahead, to think along, and to reflect. Amid cardboard boxes and reading landscapes, multimedia interactions and changing paper wallpapers, visitors are invited to help shape the future of the permanent exhibition on August Hermann Francke by casting their vote.
The themes presented grew out of a survey conducted within the Francke Foundations in 2021. With the opening of Francke in Transition, this survey is being expanded and opened to the public. What have you always wanted to know about August Hermann Francke? What does Francke mean to us today? How should we engage with his legacy? Whether the teasers will become full-fledged stations in the new permanent exhibition will be decided jointly by visitors and the exhibition makers, who are breaking new curatorial ground with this experimental approach.
