We want to strengthen children's independence, personal responsibility and autonomy. We believe in children and support them according to their age, inclinations, abilities and stage of development. We give them support, but also show them the boundaries they need – »help to do it themselves« – in the spirit of Maria Montessori.

About us

Our Concept

The environment in the children's house is designed to meet a variety of developmental needs, and the Montessori materials are created for individual learning. Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori (1870-1952) understood child development as the unfolding of powers according to a hidden but fixed inner »blueprint«. The basis of the educational approach named after her is to support this self-development rather than hinder it.

Each child chooses their work according to their own interests. In doing so, they experience their own strengths and weaknesses, skills and new challenges in their own way. Social and emotional learning is the foundation of social interaction. At the Children's House, we offer children an environment in which they can learn social and emotional skills. The mixed-age groups provide the framework for this. They enable many different social learning stimuli. Manners and group rules provide the children with guidance. Participation is a fundamental principle of Montessori education. It is characterised by openness, appreciation and trust.

Almost all of our employees have additional training, the Montessori diploma. We are a recognised internship site for trainees of the Montessori diploma course.

Our Rooms

The children's house is located in the daycare centre on Voßstraße, which was completely renovated in 2005, on the grounds of the Francke Foundations. Our four groups use rooms on the ground floor and first floor. Each group has two group rooms, a cloakroom with an integrated children's kitchen and a bathroom at its disposal. In the basement of the building, we use the exercise room, which is equipped with gymnastics equipment based on the concept of movement educator Elfriede Hengstenberg. Music, theatre and movement can take place in the music and theatre room. The room has an ellipse on the floor for silence exercises.

Our Garden

Our rooms open directly onto the large garden, which we use in all weathers. It is ideal for climbing, running around and playing in the sand. The garden is shared with the Amos Comenius nursery and the children from the August Hermann Francke after-school care centre.
